Celebrating loan recipients during Women’s History Month.
March is Women’s History Month, when we reflect on the accomplishments of women around the world. We celebrate our women loan recipients and their hard work to create a better future for themselves and their families.
Internationally, 74% of microfinance loans are to women and at WMF, our rate is even higher at 88%!

For millions of women living in poverty around the world, microfinance is more than just access to small loans—it’s a pathway to independence, stability, and hope. Traditional banking systems often exclude women, especially those in rural or low-income areas, leaving them without the financial resources needed to improve their lives. Wisconsin Microfinance and other microfinance organizations help bridge this gap by providing small loans, savings opportunities, and financial education tailored to borrower’s needs.
With these resources, WMF loan recipients have started and expanded businesses, invested in their children’s education, and gained a stronger voice in their households and communities. Studies show that, when women have financial resources, they reinvest in their families, leading to better health, education, and economic growth. Microfinance doesn’t just change individual lives—it transforms entire communities, breaking cycles of poverty for future generations.
Reflecting on the past also gives us an opportunity to invest in the future. In celebration of Women’s History Month, we want to especially thank our women donors, AND invite you to support microfinance at Wisconsin Microfinance, to empower women around the world.
