We are thrilled to welcome our very first paid employee, Tom Boyd, as our new Director of Development. A seasoned leader in the nonprofit world, Tom brings decades of experience in strategic planning, resource development, and communications. His career has spanned roles from board chair and CEO, to dean of an experimental college, and even chair of a gala clean-up committee—proving he’s not afraid to roll up his sleeves.
Tom’s background also includes high-level positions in corporate philanthropy, having served as corporate contributions director for a securities exchange and officer for a major bank. He began his professional journey on the staff of a U.S. Senator—though he insists he’s tried to forget everything he learned about politics.
When asked about joining WMF, Tom shared, “I’m really honored to join WorldWise Microfinance as development director, because I have seen how small infusions of capital, carefully managed, can spur development and trigger growth in surprising ways. I am looking forward to being a part of this remarkable team and its energy.”
Fun facts? Tom was once Bruce Springsteen’s landlord—and even played and sang in the Jersey Shore bar where The Boss got his start.
Welcome aboard, Tom!
