Local Microfinance Group Reaches Out to Malawi

WorldWise Microfinance has launched a new program to stimulate small business growth in Malawi, the fourth poorest country in the world. WMF is partnering with The Centre for Child Development and Research (CCDR), the Malawi-based NGO represented in Dane County by UW doctoral student Isaac Phiri.  CDR supports community economic empowerment initiatives in Lilongwe Rural and other districts in Malawi. The organization is focused on women’s empowerment and creating sustainable livelihoods. The new microloan program supports the work they are doing with farmer organizations to strengthen women’s participation in agriculture, develop female leadership, and support community-led economic resilience through sustainable farming.

Women in the Global South are shaping their communities and providing for their families, but continue to face barriers in accessing financial rights more widely available to men, such as property ownership and savings accounts. WorldWise remains committed to using microfinance as a tool to support women and promote gender equity in the Global South.

WorldWise Microfinance Expands in the Dominican Republic Amid Caribbean Hurricane Recovery

WorldWise Microfinance is deepening its commitment to economic resilience through the launch of a new microfinance program in the Dominican Republic. In partnership with Youth Empowered for Transformation (JET), a locally led nonprofit based in Monte Plata, WorldWise will expand access to small loans, financial education, and entrepreneurship opportunities, particularly for women living in poverty.
